Back to OPM Main Band Page

OPMOPM is best known for their distinctive, laid-back sound that combines hip-hop, punk rock, and reggae. While many of their songs exude party vibes, many lyrics also refer to teenage strife and adult frustrations. Their debut single, “Heaven is a Halfpipe,” off the band's first album, Menace to Sobriety (2000, Atlantic Records) became an international anthem for skateboarders, reaching #1 as the most requested song on L.A.'s KROQ, charting at #3 in the UK and remaining in the Top 5 for over two months.

Despite the first album's success, the band left Atlantic Records and signed with Suburban Noize Records in 2004, where they found a label that gave them creative freedom and the attention they deserved. In June 2005, OPM released their second album, ForThemAsses, which was produced by OPM and featured guest appearances by Yellowman and label-mates, the Kottonmouth Kings.
The band's latest album, California Poppy is their third full length and was produced by OPM using a more traditional style, which included writing songs, rehearsing as a band and recording drums, bass, keys and vocals. Previous albums consisted primarily of programmed beats. California Poppy features Daddy X of the Kottonmouth Kings, Kaleo from Pepper, Jim from Dumbluck and reggae legend Yellowman.

OPM is John E. Necro (vocals), Geoff Turney (guitar), Jonathan (keyboard), Robert (drums), Matt Rowe (bass), and Big B (vocals). Though the lineup has changed throughout the years, it is believed that the latest two additions to the band, Matt Rowe (formerly of Mix Mob) and Robert Bradley (formerly of Bargain Music) suit the band the best, contributing great musicianship and similar experiences as So-Cal natives. The members of OPM all live scattered throughout southern California, while Big B lives in Las Vegas. Their recording studio, which they've owned since 1998, MNO is located in Hollywood.

While Big B has also enjoyed individual success as a solo artist also on Suburban Noize Records, he still remains an integral part of OPM and plays shows with OPM when their schedules coincide. In addition, Big B has been working with john e on new tracks for the upcoming record and is planning a tour alongside OPM in 2008.

While OPM is currently in Japan on tour and shooting a video, other plans for the future include a DVD to be released this fall, a new album that will start to be recorded in November, and a Hawaiian tour in December.
